"If You Can Dream It, You Can Do It." - Walt Disney
The New Year is fast upon us, and I am excited to keep the ball rolling.
Earlier in 2021, I began the search for my Ikigai. In doing so, I turned to
the Level 10 Life Method and divided the areas of my life into 15 categories,
and I rated them on a scale of 1-10.
"The purpose of life is a life of purpose." - Robert Byrne
Ikigai is a Japanese philosophy that translates to "reason for being". Those
who have managed to find their Ikigai tend to live longer and more fulfilling
lives, a goal I hope to obtain for myself and a life skill I hope to pass on
to my children and family. A recommended read on the concept of Ikigai is by Ken Mogi entitled "Awakening Your Ikigai: How the Japanese Wake Up to Joy and Purpose Every Day".
The Level 10 Life is a personal development method created by Hal Elrod and
covered in his book "The Miracle Morning". Following the Level 10 Life Method, one would divide their life into 10
categories, evaluate your interpretation of where you are in life, and
encourage you to set goals to improve upon those areas.

Examples of My Life Area Goals
In each Life Category, I have 2-5 set goals per area in addition to a rating
for each category itself.
Education (2) | Study for and
pass the Level 5 JLPT by 2023. One goal I have in life is to become
proficient in the Japanese Language. In my youth, I had a decent handle on
the language. However, through years of nonuse, I have lost a large portion
of my understanding of the language, and I would like to regain that
knowledge.
Creativity (5) | Dedicate time
to Creative Blog and Webcomic in
addition to maintaining my OmanahLand Blog. I have told myself that I would
dedicate more time to my art for years. I have even gone to create a
Drawing Group on Facebook. I even have a hoard of notebooks, sketchbooks, and binders filled with
story concepts, ideas, and incomplete scripts. This year, I hope to focus
more on my creative works and see a number of them come to life.
Time (2) | Create Structure and
routines within the home. I would like to rid myself of the overwhelming
feeling of running out of time. I would like to impose more Structure and
routines into my life and home to decrease the need to rush. I would also
like to reduce the number of trips I have to make to my children's school
because someone has left behind a notebook, form, snow gear, etc.
Personal Development (4) | Read
4 books a month and win the GoodReads Reading Challenge. Last year, I read
61 books beating my 2021 GoodReads challenge goal by 13. That's an extra
book a month! This year, I aim to read another 48 books, with my "expert
goal" being 65 books. Last year, I did not have an "expert goal," so I am
excited to see how far I can go.
Family (6) | Send monthly
postcards to close friends and family. It has been my thought to send out
monthly postcards to close friends and family as a reminder that we are
always thinking of them. In 2021 I collected a few postcards in preparation
for this, though, so I can't wait to bring it into practice at the start of
the year.
Tracking My Life Goals
Planners
I am currently searching for a planning system that will work for me. I have
given different methods a try in the past. However, I lacked the personal
investment needed to make the most of them. For 2022 I hope to find a
planning system or method that works for me.
Blogging and Check-Ins
In addition to using planners, I aim to hold myself accountable with my
blogs. As I update them, I will be moving closer to completing and tracking
my journey as we progress through 2022.
My Assumed Ikigai
My primary goal in 2022 is to hopefully find my Ikigai. 2020 and 2021 were
devastating years for me, to put it mildly. Not only did I lose over 30
friends and family members within those two years, but I also suffered many
personal hardships of which I am still fighting to overcome and recover
from. As a result of all these Ls, I figure there has to be a win somewhere
in the cards for me. I just need to find it. Thus, the premise for the
OmanahLand Blog in my journey through 2022 is to grow as an individual and
hopefully find/determine my Ikigai my reason(s) for being.
"What is the one thing you'd like to change the most in the world? −
Currently, what is it that makes you very happy and joyful in life? −
What makes you wake up in the morning and go through your day." - Alan
Daron
As for my assumed Ikigai, since I can remember, my goal in life has been to
be the owner of a fortune 500 animation studio, theme park, spa, and resort;
essentially, I have always wanted to be the next Walt Disney. However, life
has had other plans for me, and I have not dedicated the time to pursue my
dream. My art and writing bring me joy, happiness, peace, and release in
life. It is what I assume to be my Ikigai.
Though I may be wrong, life may have other plans for me. I want to take the
time in 2022 and dedicate space in my life to chase this dream and see how
far I'll go in this journey. My art-related content will primarily be on my
art blog. If you are interested in following my progress regarding my art
and writing journey, visit my
